Hi all,

I hope you're well! I wonder if you'd be interested in helping boost numbers as non-medical guests at another Mahler reduction workshop day? Details are below. I've also appended details of a concert in September, in case you're free and fancy a play through some fun repertoire in good company!

Workshop 2025

After the success of our workshop days on chamber reductions of Mahler’s 5th, 6th and 9th symphonies, this year we turn to the 7th symphony, a piece which amateurs almost never get to play.

Details are as follows:

Date: Saturday 8 March 2025, 0930-1730

Venue: Christ Church, Didsbury, M20 2ZD

Music: It is significantly cheaper to hire digital copies of the music. I will assume you are happy to play off a digital copy on a tablet/iPad or print your own part unless you tell me otherwise, in which case I'll arrange for a printed part. Parts will be available very soon.

Fee: No formal registration fee as such, though venue and music hire will likely come to around £600, so a voluntary contribution of £20 (non-medical guests and students excluded) would be gratefully received.

Dinner: Please join us for dinner (likely Italian) in Didsbury afterwards.

Concert 2025

I’m excited to give you preliminary information on a concert performance which I have booked for next September:

Dates:

•    Sat 6 Sept ~9am-5pm: rehearsals in Didsbury, followed by dinner

•    Sun 7 Sept: rehearsal ~10am-3pm, concert 5pm (all at Royal Northern College of Music)

Repertoire: Smetana Vltava from Ma Vlast, Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 (with Julian Davis), Dvorak Symphony No. 7

Fee: Venue hire is ~£3k, so I'll likely ask for a voluntary contribution in the region of £50

Help!: If anyone is enthusiastic to help organise this so that we can make it a successful annual event, please let me know. In particular, if anyone is interested in helping to fix/recruit players (esp strings), please get in touch.

Please let me know if you would like to play in either or both of these events. Violinists, please let me know your preference for 1st vs 2nd violin. Feel free to share this invitation with any interested string players, and do ring/email/text if you have any questions/suggestions.
